英美报刊常用词汇
答案：鸦片战争以前，对中国社会产生重大影响的是英、美等国人士在广州等地出版的英文报刊。从19世纪20年代起，外国人开始在广州出版报刊。这是外国人在华办报的一个重要进展。
(1)《广州纪录与行情报》
1827年11月8日，中国境内的第一份英文报纸《广州纪录与行情报》创刊，初为双周刊，后改为周刊。1828年，该报改名为《广州纪录报》。该报由英国鸦片商马地臣出资创办，由马地臣和马礼逊担任编辑。《广州纪录报》是一张商业性报纸，货价行情、航运消息占主要篇幅，1833年还出版过广告商情附刊《广州行情周报》，但也广泛刊登政治时事新闻和评论，有强烈的政治色彩。该报在当时影响很大，读者远及南洋、印度及英美一些主要商埠，自1835年起还开始接受华人订户。
(2)《广州周报》
1835年9月12日，英国人创办《广州周报》，周刊，篇幅较《广州纪录报》为多，为广州另一家颇有影响的英文报纸。该报为英国自由贸易派商人所办，在经济上受到颠地洋行的支持，不断抨击东印度公司垄断对华贸易。
(3)《中国差报与广州钞报》
《中国差报与广州钞报》是美国人在华创办的第一份报纸，于1831年7月28日创刊，由美国商人伍德创办并任编辑。1832年4月14日实行改版，改用简称《中国差报》出版，1833年9月底停刊。
(4)《中国丛报》
英文月刊《中国丛报》第一期出版于1832年5月31日，由美国第一个来华的新教传教士裨治文创办并担任第一任主编。先后在广州、澳门、香港三地出版近20年。该刊大量、详尽地报道与评述中国的政治、经济、军事、文化、外交、地理、历史、风俗等各方面的情况，有关宗教的文章却很少。此外，还报道西方传教士、商人在中国和亚洲其他地方活动的情况，经常讨论对华政策问题，鼓吹对中国采取强硬手段乃至武力侵华。由于刊载资料十分丰富，该刊至今仍为中外学术界高度重视。
作为外国侵略者的舆论工具，这些在中国出版的外文报刊，一般都以提供情报和新闻信息为主，以本国读者为受众对象。就其新闻业务而言，采、写、编、评各方面的水平都较高，是其本国新闻事业发展水平在中国的体现。
